I have tried to steer clear of white sugar and corn syrup for nearly 10 years now (having been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, it’s the only thing I’ve found that helps me keep my energy levels up). But sometimes I really crave something sweet!
So when we were kids, we had this great peanut butter candy recipe that used tons of sugar AND corn syrup, and then added already sweetened peanut butter. But I don’t have any of those things in my house. What I have is…
Ingredients
- Honey
- Natural peanut butter
- Toasted oats cereal (the round kind)
Before you start, have everything you are going to need ready–cereal measured, waxed paper or cake pan prepped, etc. These things set up FAST!
1. In a large sauce pan or small stock pot, heat 1 cup honey over very low heat until it is almost, but not quite, boiling.
2. Turn off heat and add 1 cup peanut butter. Mix until smooth, but still hot.
3. Add 4 cups of cereal and stir carefully (but quickly).
4. Quickly drop in clumps on waxed paper and allow to cool. Store in the fridge. Alternately, you can spread it in a small greased cake pan, refrigerate for a couple of hours, and cut it into bars.
These turned out pretty darned well! I’m always excited to find something can be made with honey just as well as with sugar.

I love peanut butter, this sounds like a quick and easy snack to curb those cravings! Cheerios has a new peanut butter flavor, if you’d like to try it out. It’s on the light side, but not bad. 🙂
